I give talks to Church and Social groups, Art, Woodcarving, and Wood Turning groups within a reasonable distance from Hebden Bridge

CHAINSAW CARVING DEMONSTRATION

Artistic chainsaw demonstrations & talks with an electric chain saw take about 2 hrs.  Needs electricity and a sweepable floor covering. I will produce a carved head at least partly with a chain saw, although some delicate areas will be carved with hand tools. History of Carving.

HISTORY OF WOODCARVING

A one to two-hour talk tracing the history of woodcarving from 100,000 years ago through the Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, the Dark Ages, Medieval, and the Renaissance, to modern times of Grinling Gibbons, Henry Moore.

THE LINE BETWEEN ART & CRAFT

A one to two-hour talk exploring the ill-defined line between Art and Craft. This line is easier to see when discussing sculpture rather than painting. I reach a tentative definition which is open to question.  See also Woodcarver’s Passion.

A SCULPTOR’S PROGRESS

A  one to two-hour talk exploring what inspires me to carve in my style, and where that style came.   Mine style is usual,  as I tend to use found wood ( defined as not machined) whereas most carvers start with a square block, a front and side outline and saw the block of wood to shape.  This different from the Woodcarver’s Passion talk

WOODCARVER’S PASSION

A  one to two hour talk exploring my personal voyage through sculpture and carving. This different from the A Sculptor’s Progress talk.

ART APPRECIATION

A one to two-hour talks demonstrations wood exploring the differences between how painters and sculptors see, and how this is reflected in my approach to Art Appreciation

Fees

I charge £50 plus milage at £0.45 per mile
