Woodcarving
In over 65 years experience in which I have tried most things, I found that I prefer the sculptural to the decorative and the human figure, in groups or singly as my subject of choice. I will, however, carve whatever the client wants
Sculpture
Over 45 years of experience and have tried my hand with clay, wax, plaster, metal, plastic, and stone but prefer direct carving in wood.
Chainsaw Carving
Chainsaw carving is a natural extension of my normal carving and sculpture practice. I am trying to drop this sort of work as at over 70; I am coming to a time when climbing up 6 foot of palettes to carve a 12-foot tree is less appealing.
Drawing
Drawing is the basis of all my work. I always carry a sketchbook and work in it most days. This constant looking improves the seeing of form, which is essential to the carving process.
Organisational Skills
I have been a Civil Service executive for 30 years and ran my own computer consultancy business. I understand the need to meet deadlines and price restraints.
