Upside down tree
Project Description

I was asked to create a sculpture for Simpson Lane J&I School, Knottingley.   The price was fixed in the contract between the local authority and the building contractors, who had also already selected the tree I was to use.    I had few options except making something that fitted rather  the low price and the tree.    Turning the tree upside down provided an exciting sculpture very quickly.   Fortunately the contractors moved the tree into position.   I took off the bark and dislodged the stones that were trapped in the roots, then carved the images the school’s pupils had provided
