Tickhill Two
Project Description
I was asked to carve a yew log, that soon became two figures. A problem with yew is that the latest years wood is white and earlier years a deep red. It is impossible to cut away all the new white wood, leaving only the red and still make a reasonable sculpture, so until it weathers there is a piebald surface to the work. Another problem with yew, is that almost every part of it is poisonous. There was a lovely dog in the grounds and I had to be careful to keep all my offcuts tidy so that he did not get them
