The cline wanted to reproduce an exact copy of the Aztec Serpent in the V&A. He needed a base in wood on which to glue the stone mosaic. We had some long email about how I was to arrive at the shape. The top view was complex but easy to see, and I just had to make the wood the thickness of the mosaic thinner. The profile of the serpent was different as we had no pictures. Was the body round or did it have a flat back? I do not know if the client ever completed the piece.
